plescanfan Looking forward to when the completed album drops! An eerie, hypnotic, and deeply detailed work that evoke the flushes and groans of waste and nature on a scale like few others... Favorite track: 8. The Secret Name: cold fires wash.

Line in nature is not found Unit and universe are round In vain produced, all rays return Evil will bless and ice will burn (from Uriel, Ralph Emerson)

Crude thoughts and fierce forces are my state. I do not know who I am. Nor what I was. I cannot hear a sound. Pain is near that will be like no pain felt before. Is this the fear that holds the universe? Is pain the fundament? All the rivers veins of pain? The oceans my mind awash? I have a thirst like the heat of earth on fire. Mountains writhe. I see waves of flame. Washes, flashes, waves of flame. -Norman Mailer from Ancient Evenings
6.
Cold fires wash behind his sightless eyes As his seven lights prepare to leave.... Nor do they take sudden flight, But depart with an even calm. All but one, All but one, the Ren, His secret name, Who leaves at once Even as a falling star Might fall through the sky. -Norman Mailer, Ancient Evenings

about

Music from the 6-hour Opera / Film project by Matthew Barney and Jonathan Bepler (2014)

(Album is a work in progress. Previously unreleased material. Adding another track every couple of days or so)

Seven years in the making and comprising live performance and recordings in various locations including Los Angeles, Detroit, Brooklyn and Queens. Featuring a large cast of soloists and ensembles.

Note:
In 2007, Matthew Barney and Jonathan Bepler began a new collaborative project inspired by American author Norman Mailer's 1983 novel Ancient Evenings, set in pharaonic Egypt. The project was conceived as a nontraditional opera with a series of one-time-only live acts performed across the American landscape.
